Cupcake Cakes

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

We thought we would share some cute cupcake cakes for inspiration for our new cupcake party theme.  Giant cupcake cakes are really popular at the moment and it’s not surprising why.  They are super cute!

Princess party supplies and birthday ideas

I recently had a customer ask me for a simple idea for a princess cake that would be easy for her to make.  She felt she was not a very good cake maker herself and couldn’t afford a fancy cake by a cake decorator.  So I have been hunting for a cake that would not only be super easy to make but also look fantastic!  I think this cake is so pretty.  It’s just a simple two layer pink cake with a cute princess tiara on top for the decoration.  I love the paper doily underneath and the gorgeous white cake stand just finishes it off.  If you don’t have a cake stand, never fear.  You can easily make one out of some cardboard boxes wrapped in some white wrapping paper and tied with a pretty pink ribbon.  This gorgeous cake is not only simple but it fits the budget and is perfect for any little princess.  Enjoy.

Disco Party

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

My daughter is having a disco party for her 10th birthday so I have been on the hunt for some party inspiration.  She had a hawaiian disco party when she was 7 but has asked to have a pink, black and silver disco party this year!  While I have been on the hunt I have found some amazing disco party cakes that I just have to share with you.  They look too good to eat!  Yum!

Easy Race Car Cake

Easy Race Car Cake

Easy recipe for a race car birthday cake

  1. Bake 2 round cakes using one cake mix. (If feeding a larger crowd, use 2 cake mixes, bake 4 rounds, and stack.)
  2. Set them side-by-side and shave off a bit of the edge of one round, so that the other round can fit into it like a puzzle.
  3. Make 1 batch of buttercream icing*.  Leave about 1/2 cup white, and dye the rest green.
  4. Pipe or spread the green icing to cover the whole cake.
  5. Put  several Oreos or other chocolate cookies (minus the cream filling) in a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin or a glass to crush them.  Put crumbs in a cup, and pour slowly into a figure 8 pattern, pressing into the icing as you go.  I put a small bowl in the center of the cake to give me a good circle outline to pour around.  After all your pouring and pressing, it still won’t have a perfect edge, but that’s where your white icing comes in.
  6. Pipe white icing to outline your track, and add little road lines while you’re at it.
  7. Stick some cool new cars on top, that will double as presents later.

*Easy Buttercream Icing

1 lb icing sugar

1 stick butter or margarine

1 tsp. vanilla

3-5  tbsp. of milk

Soften butter at room temp for awhile, or set on the stovetop while the oven preheats- don’t get it too melty though. Beat the powdered sugar into the butter+milk a bit at a time, so you don’t find yourself in a powder cloud. Add the vanilla.  If it’s still too dry, put in another spoon of milk.

The Speckled Freckle Party Place thanks Jamie Lauretta for this great recipe!
